Follow-up for November 22

Just a reminder to the items we left hanging on Saturday that we hope to finish on this blog:

1. Please try to complete the Cn3D activity by answering the questions at the end. If you are having problems please ask here.

2. Please submit the title and a brief summary of your lesson plan to Steve by email. If you need to bounce ideas around throw them at this blog.

3. What topics would be most beneficial to you if we covered them on January 10th? How about tapping into Steve's vast knowledge of effective A/V presentations?? Let's discuss that here too.

4. Lastly, remember to post to this blog and comment on 3 posts before Jan. 10th.

Happy Thanksgiving to all and to all a full tummy!!

Standards and Your Lesson Plans?

This is a question for the teachers. When designing a lesson plan for use at your school, how important is it that the lesson be linked explicitly to a standard?

For example, on page 230 of the
California Science Framework
Standard 1d says "Students know the central dogma of molecular biology outlines the flow of information from transcription of ribonucleic acid (RNA) in the nucleus to translation of proteins on ribosomes in the cytoplasm." Would you have to cite that standard if you were preparing a lesson on molecular biology?

I ask because curriculum developers constantly hear that "all activities have to be directly linked to the standards" when designing lessons and materials.

Welcome to Blogging on Marine Biotechnology and Bioinformatics

MBB Teachers and Staff,

Use this blog to post your lesson plans AND more importantly, comments about others lesson plans. Post your lesson plan and comment (helpful constructive comments) on 3 others before January 10, when we return for another session.

It's an experiment in collaborative learning.
